   "Avec l'affaire Dieudonné, une digue morale vient de sauter dans les établissements scolaires, selon certains enseignants interrogés par Le Figaro. «La Shoah, j'en suis gavé depuis la classe de troisième. Entre les émissions de télé, les séries, l'école, on ne parle que de ça. Moi, ça me fait du bien d'en rire avec Dieudonné.» Voici ce qu'a entendu la semaine dernière un professeur d'histoire parisien lors d'un cours consacré à la Seconde Guerre mondiale. «Pourquoi parle-t-on tout le temps du génocide juif et pas du génocide rwandais ou cambodgien ?», écrit une élève à la fin d'un devoir d'histoire sans vouloir réaliser, apparemment, qu'elle vit en France. Le mois dernier, une enseignante, professeur contractuelle d'histoire-géographie dans un lycée de Saint-Priest (Rhône), a déposé plainte en raison d'attaques à caractère antisémite de ses élèves. Elle s'est ainsi entendu dire : «On ne veut pas d'une juive comme professeur dans notre classe.»
    Sur certaines photos de classe abondamment médiatisées, des élèves font, depuis deux ans environ, le signe de ralliement à Dieudonné, la «quenelle», ce geste que le ministre de l'Intérieur a récemment qualifié d'antisémite mais que les élèves revendiquent plutôt comme «antisystème». Déjà en 2009, alors qu'un enseignant de mathématiques du Blanc-Mesnil avait été la cible d'une inscription anti-juive, la conseillère principale d'éducation du lycée y voyait l'influence de Dieudonné : «Son auteur aurait été influencé par des idées véhiculées dans les banlieues, et par le polémiste qui y fait parfois figure d'idole», estimait-elle.
   «Dans certains endroits, il est difficile d'enseigner tout court, ce sont ces endroits où les élèves sont trop éloignés de l'école. Ailleurs, il n'y a pas de difficulté spécifique à enseigner la Shoah», estime toutefois Sophie Ernst, professeur de philosophie, enseignante dans le Val-de-Marne. Avant la forte médiatisation du bras de fer mené par Manuel Valls pour annuler la nouvelle tournée de Dieudonné, avance-t-elle, «une bonne moitié d'élèves» n'avaient jamais entendu le nom du personnage. «Depuis, certaines voix se sont élevées pour dire qu'on en parlait beaucoup parce que les juifs étaient visés.» [...]
    Mais pour Iannis Roder, professeur d'histoire en Seine-Saint-Denis et formateur au Mémorial de la Shoah, des progrès considérables restent à faire. Les professeurs qu'il voit passer - environ 1 000 par an - viennent rechercher des contenus. «Le discours public laisse à penser que l'on connaît tout sur cette période. Nous sommes abreuvés de Shoah, mais les choses sont mal dites.» Iannis Roder combat ce qu'il appelle «la pédagogie de l'horreur».
   «En choquant, on paralyse la pensée», poursuit celui qui bannit le film Nuit et Brouillard pourtant souvent diffusé en classe de troisième ainsi que «les pèlerinages doloristes à Auschwitz». D'aucuns estiment même que ces voyages pensés comme des vaccins antiracistes sont un ratage complet. «Il faut entrer dans cette question par le nazisme, par la politique. Si les souffrances ne peuvent être comparées, les systèmes politiques peuvent l'être», résume l'enseignant qui entend ainsi couper court aux interrogations communautaristes classiques formulées par certains élèves."

    - Mais pourquoi la Shoah est-elle devenue la référence quand on parle de crime contre l'Humanité ?
    - La notion même de génocide et de crime contre l'Humanité vient de là. L'Holocauste est devenu le modèle référentiel d'abord du point de vue du droit international, qui a été créé pour traiter de ce sujet. Mais de nombreux auteurs critiquent la surexposition mémorielle de la Shoah, qui dépouille les autres événements dramatiques de l'indignation qu'ils pourraient susciter. Ce "succès mémoriel" a des effets pervers. Il peut amener à banaliser les catastrophes présentes. Il peut être érigé en Mal absolu inégalable. En réaction, certains veulent le délégitimer et le nier. La mémoire de la Shoah fait émerger des questions dérangeantes. Que faire d'un événement qui prend tant de place dans un pays qui a du mal à ouvrir les placards de son passé ? Il s'agit d'une réelle question de société. Comment parler de son passé ? Comment reconnaître les victimes ? Comment les inscrire dans l'histoire et assumer les éventuelles différences de traitement ?
    - C'est la concurrence victimaire...
    - Je réfute cette expression. Être victime ne constitue pas une identité. Cette expression oppose des communautés, comme si celles-ci étaient des groupes homogènes. Rien n'est plus faux. C'est pourquoi je préfère m'en tenir à la concurrence mémorielle. Chaque événement a sa spécificité, sa singularité, il est dangereux de vouloir créer un référentiel. Il faut comprendre et dénoncer chaque drame historique pour ce qu'il est en se gardant de toute tentative hiérarchisante. [...]"

    Les combattants exécutés le 22 février 1944 étaient, pour la plupart, juifs. Et en tout cas étrangers. Ils aimaient la vie et la France à en mourir. Ils étaient communistes et c'est aussi pour cette raison qu'ils ont fait le coup de feu contre les nazis. Et ils sont morts aussi pour l'honneur du peuple juif, eux qui avaient vu leurs parents, leurs petits frères et petites sœurs partir pour les chambres à gaz. Mais ils étaient avant tout français. Tellement plus français qu'une vieille ganache nommée Pétain. Tellement plus français que les canailles au front bas qui se marrent en écrivant "shoah nanas".
    Tel n'est sans doute pas l'avis de Robert Faurisson qui épaule Dieudonné dans son dur combat contre la pieuvre juive. Il a – infatigable explorateur des ramifications du complot talmudique – étudié de près l'affaire de l'Affiche rouge. Et après moult recherches il a livré sa conclusion. Les "terroristes de l'Affiche rouge", a-t-il décrété, ne pouvaient être de "vrais Français". Car "seuls des Juifs pouvaient lâchement tirer dans le dos des soldats allemands". Culture historique oblige, c'est ce qu'ont vaguement compris ceux qui sont allés taguer la fresque de Manouchian, un Arménien pourtant. [...]"

   "This week, sources close to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu sparked controversy when they announced that in any future Palestinian state, Israel would insist that Israelis living in Judea and Samaria be allowed to remain under Palestinian control if they should choose to. Coalition partners, even members of Netanyahu’s own party, were quick to reject the idea.
    Palestinians were no less adamant in their opposition to allowing Jewish settlements to remain in any future two-state solution. “Anyone who says he wants to keep the settlers in a Palestinian state is really saying he does not want a Palestinian state,” chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat declared. “No settler will be permitted to stay in a Palestinian state, not one, because the settlements are illegal and the presence of settlers on occupied lands is illegal.”
    This is hardly the first time this issue has come up between the sides. Discussion of the possibility of leaving Israeli settlements under Palestinian control came up ahead of the 2005 Gaza disengagement. In 2006, when he was pondering a unilateral withdrawal from parts of the West Bank euphemistically called “realignment,” then-prime minister Ehud Olmert stated that “each and every one of the settlers who live in territories that will be evacuated will need to decide whether to live in a Jewish state or in a Palestinians state.”
    In January 2011, when Al Jazeera leaked hundreds of documents that revealed details of the negotiations that took place between Olmert’s government and the PA in 2007 and 2008 – an incident that became known as “Palileaks” – it emerged that Ahmed Qurei was willing to allow Jews to stay put if they agreed to live under Palestinian sovereignty, though then-foreign minister Tzipi Livni rejected the idea.
    In August 2013, during a meeting with a group of Meretz MKs and activists, PA President Mahmoud Abbas was asked by Haaretz if he would agree to allow Jewish settlements to remain under Palestinian sovereignty. He replied that “these are details that need to be discussed. Every topic is open for negotiation, keeping an open mind.” However, one month before, while in Egypt and speaking in Arabic, Abbas said something very different: “In a final resolution, we would not see the presence of a single Israeli – civilian or soldier – on our land.”
    Other Palestinians have made a distinction between existing settlements, which would have to go, and future Jewish immigration to “Palestine,” which would be allowed. They have done this to counter the argument that Palestinians are trying to make Judea and Samaria, areas so resonant with historical and religious meaning for Jews, the only place in the world that is officially Judenrein (“cleansed of Jews”).
    All supporters of a two-state solution would ideally like to see a Palestinian state created alongside Israel that is pluralistic enough and democratic enough to incorporate a Jewish minority, just as the State of Israel is able to incorporate a large Arab minority. Such a Palestinian state would be more stable and peaceful than an autocracy or an Islamic republic, which seem to be the norms in the region. Unfortunately, this is not the situation. Any Israeli left behind under Palestinian sovereignty would likely be in danger. [...]
    Therein lies the paradox. If the Palestinians were truly interested in peace, they should be able to absorb a Jewish minority. If, on the other hand, the Palestinians are unwilling to integrate Jews, perhaps they are truly not interested in peace. Under the circumstances, it will be no easy matter to convince a majority of Israelis that the price of a two-state solution is worth it."

   "The "Kerry Plan" is likely to be unveiled soon, Thomas Friedman of The New York Times wrote on Tuesday in a column titled "Why Kerry is Scary." The “Kerry Plan,” writes Friedman, is expected to "call for an end to the conflict and all claims, following a phased Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank (based on the 1967 lines)." Friedman also said that there will be "unprecedented security arrangements in the strategic Jordan Valley."
    According to Friedman, some settlements will remain under Israeli control and Israel will "compensate" Palestinians for the land. The plan will set east Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital. It will also demand that Palestinians recognize Israel as a Jewish state. The plan, Friedman continues, will not include any right of return for Palestinian refugees into Israel.
    Friedman also claims that if Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is to agree to the terms of the "Kerry Plan," his coalition will collapse and Netanyahu will face many challenges. [...]"

    An American framework agreement expected to be presented in the coming weeks to the negotiating teams will never receive Palestinian endorsement if based on parameters currently being voiced by the Americans, said Tawfiq Tirawi, a member of Fatah’s Central Committee and head of the official Palestinian investigation committee into the death of Yasser Arafat, speaking to Lebanese news channel Al-Mayadeen Thursday.
   “We [in Fatah] know what the Israelis and Americans are suggesting [in the negotiating room]. So far, the negotiations are taking place only with the Americans, not the Israelis, and the Americans are liars. There is no framework agreement. It’s a lie. Even if Kerry [presents] an agreement, Palestinians will reject it. There will be a vote, either inside Fatah or among the Palestinian leadership, and the American proposals will be rejected,” Tirawi said. [...]"

    Netanyahu’s statement came a day after the Israeli watchdog Palestinian Media Watch published excerpts translated from a column published on January 22 in Al-Hayat al-Jadida, the Palestinian Authority’s official daily newspaper, in which the writer claimed that Netanyahu had inherited Nazi genes and explicitly accused him of using Nazi practices against the Palestinian population. “Is it possible that Netanyahu has preserved it [racism] and acquired it genetically from the days of the Nazis and the Aryan race?” he wrote. “Instead of Netanyahu disassociating himself from any act that would remind him of [Adolf] Hitler’s racism, he imitates it and wants to replicate it against the people of Palestine, its inhabitants and nation and even against the citizens of the State of Israel themselves.”
    Comparing Israel to Nazi Germany is not a new practice in the Palestinian media, and Israeli officials have consistently pointed to incitement in the Palestinian media as a cause of violence by Palestinians against Israel."

   “We don’t want to annex the Palestinians as Israeli citizens and we don’t want to rule over them,” he said, “but the Palestinian state must be demilitarized, which means that certain signs of sovereignty need to be limited. The minute you demilitarize a state, you limit certain capabilities. That is necessary; that is the real Middle East.”
    Netanyahu, who did not break any new ground in this speech, repeated what he said last week in Davos: that in the Middle East to make peace you need three – not only two – to tango. “We are interested in continuing the negotiations and try to get to this agreement, I know that the Americans are interested that we get there, I cannot tell you at this time whether the Palestinian leadership is ready to deal with the concessions it will have to make,” he said.
    Netanyahu stressed that while everyone always talks about the concessions Israel needs to make, it is worthwhile paying attention to the concessions that Palestinians will have to make to get to an agreement that will last and provide a chance for coexistence in peace and security.    "The acclaimed British novelist Howard Jacobson opened his speech at the B’nai B’rith World Center in Jerusalem last October with piercing sarcasm: “The question is rhetorical. When will Jews be forgiven the Holocaust? Never.” However, there has been a shift in the underpinnings of anti-Semitism. Israel has become the collective Jew among the nations, as the late French historian Léon Poliakov said about the new metamorphosis of Jew-hatred. Jacobson was piggy-backing on the eye-popping insight of the Israel psychoanalyst Zvi Rex, who reportedly said: “The Germans will never forgive the Jews for Auschwitz.”
    The anti-Semitic logic at work here is Europe’s pathologically guilt-filled response to the Holocaust, which, in short, is to shift the onus of blame to the Jews to cleanse one’s conscience. Two German-Jewish Marxist philosophers – Max Horkheimer and Theodor W. Adorno – coined an esoteric sociological term for what unfolded in post-Shoah Germany: Guilt-defensiveness anti-Semitism. On the one hand, Adorno and Horkheimer may come across as kitchen-sink psychology. On the other hand, the explanatory power behind anti-Semitic guilt animating hatred of Jews and Israel can provide a window into Europe’s peculiar obsession with the Jewish state.
    Europe is largely consumed with imposing discipline and punishment on Israel. How else to explain the efforts by the German government and fellow EU member states to label products from the disputed territories? The EU refuses to apply the same label system to the scores of other territorial conflicts ranging from China/Tibet to Turkey/Cyprus to Morocco/ Western Sahara.
    The origins of Europe’s disturbing preoccupation with Israel can be traced to the late 1960s. The Austrian Jewish writer and Auschwitz survivor Jean Amery recognized that “anti-Zionism contains anti-Semitism like a cloud contains a storm.” The German-Jewish author Henryk M. Broder perhaps best captured the toxic mix of pathological Holocaust guilt with the desire to dismantle Israel. In an article he wrote in the early 1980s he told his contemporary Germans: “You’re still your parents’ children. Your Jew today is the State of Israel.”
    Sacha Stawski, an expert on anti-Semitism in the German media, told The Jerusalem Post on Monday that “Israel-related anti-Semitism is probably the most common and most persistent form of anti-Semitism in all levels of society today.” Stawski, who is a German Jew and editor-in-chief of the media watchdog website Honestly Concerned, added: “Today it is no longer fashionable to hate Jews outright, but it is perfectly acceptable to debate about and to demonstrate against the very core of the Jewish state’s existence – in a way and with emotions unlike that about any other country.”
    The social-psychological theory articulated by Adorno and Horkheimer might, just might, provide a macro-level grasp of a pan-European epidemic that is fixated on turning Israel into a human punching bag."
